Wedding Receptions Between Westernized Culture And Chinese Traditions
In every wedding receptions, food is the most important part. Wedding reception practices are as old as the wedding itself. This event is held as hospitality for those who have attended the wedding by form of food and drink, since etiquette requires that anyone invited to a social function be offered proper refreshments. Wedding receptions are as diverse as the wedding itself. Currently, the most popularly practiced wedding reception today is those of Western-style weddings. However, the Chinese still practices their own unique wedding reception in spite of the fact that it was widely influenced by Westernized culture. Western-Style Wedding Reception In any Western-style weddings, wedding receptions primarily include the food. Food served in the wedding reception at the reception is determined by the time of the wedding and local custom. Most receptions feature food, usually either a plated or buffet dinner. Other choices would usually include a catering wedding packages, in which include a meal consisting of chef-attended stations. This practice of serving food in wedding receptions is the current trends in almost every country around the world, especially to those heavily influenced by Westernized cultures. China has also been one of the many countries that was influenced by Western culture, particularly with their wedding practices. The Chinese today would usually opt to wearing traditional Western-style wedding dresses than their traditional red and gold wedding dresses. Wedding receptions have also been widely influenced by Westernized cultures, however, the Chinese still practices their own unique wedding reception. Chinese Wedding Reception In Chinese society, the wedding reception is considered far more important than the wedding itself, which tends to be a brief civil ceremony. Unlike Western-style wedding receptions, the groom’s family pays all the wedding and reception expenses. Food served in Chinese wedding receptions are very different to that of Westernized wedding receptions. A Chinese wedding reception wedding packages typically has nine or ten courses. Usually, expensive dishes such as shark fin, abalone, lobster, jumbo shrimp, squab, sea bass, or sea cucumber are served by the Chinese to their guests. The average cost of higher-end wedding packages menus ranges from USD$1,000 to $1,600 per table. Food served in Chinese wedding receptions are also different from westernized practices. Some Westerners may not feel comfortable seeing dishes with a fish head, chicken head, or pig head; however, a whole fish, chicken, or pig means luck and completeness in Chinese wedding culture. Guests are also welcome to take leftovers home. Taking home the remaining food indicates appreciation of the groom and bride’s choice of food. About twenty minutes after the tenth (last) dish is served, the groom and bride, along with their families, will line up at the entrance/exit to bid the guests farewell and thank them for coming. It is not polite to leave before the last dish is served. For more information visit to our site at http://philippineweddingplanner.com
